Panel to monitor schools with poor results, says Soni

Date:

Mohali, June 1: The mismatch between availability and requirement of teachers was cited as the biggest reason for poor show of schools in the Class X examinations by representatives of various schools at a meeting here on Friday.

The Education Department had summoned school heads and teachers of particular subjects from schools where the pass percentage was less than 15, at the Punjab School Education Board office.

Secretary (School Education) Krishan Kumar had an interaction with schools heads of 221 high and senior secondary schools and 240 subject teachers to analyse the results, problems and shortcomings. DPI (Secondary Education) Paramjeet Singh and DPI (Elementary) Inderjit Singh were also part of the session.

Minister for School Education Om Parkash Soni asked his department to prepare a detailed action plan for improvement of education along with a timeline for these schools.

The minister said, “No teacher is being punished for bad results this time. At the same time, a list of the schools under scrutiny has been prepared and will be formally released through the District Education Officers (DEOs) concerned for a follow-up action. The schools will be monitored by a special committee.”
