Muktsar, July 16: Some villages in Muktsar district have waged a war against the drug menace and announced social boycott of those found supplying drugs. Besides, local level committees formed by villagers for this purpose have even announced to “teach a lesson” to such people.
For instance, in Gurursar village, some people are visiting households and shops, appealing to people to curb the drug menace and warning that if someone is found supplying drugs, he/she won’t be spared.
Ranjit Singh, coordinator of the Nasha Roku Committee, Gurusar village, said, “The village sarpanch, numberdar and some other persons are members of the committee. We have warned some suspected people, also informed the police about their alleged involvement in the drugs trade.” Ranjit said they were also organising an awareness rally in the village on Monday and had called gangster-turned-activist Lakha Sidhana as the main speaker.
Some neighbouring villages such as Fakkarsar, Duhewala and Peori, too, have formed anti-drug committees. Recently, SGPC member Gurpal Singh ‘Gora’ held a meeting at Fakkarsar village, in which he appealed to people to save
