In offensive mode, Badal Sr. offers arrest in sacrilege case

Date:

Chandigarh, February 21: Breaking his silence on the action taken against IGP PS Umranangal in the Behbal Kalan firing case, Shiromani Akali Dal patron and former chief minister Parkash Singh Badal on Thursday said he was ready to face arrest by the Special Investigation Team.

Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh had on Wednesday assailed the SAD-BJP for the sacrilege incidents. Addressing the House, he had pointed out that they had failed to accept even their own Commission’s report into the firing incident. His government, said Captain Amarinder, would take the findings of the Ranjit Singh Commission report to their logical conclusion, and not spare anyone found guilty of the horrendous crime, even if it meant taking the probe right up to the ‘top’.

Addressing the media, Badal said that he has told the Punjab DGP that he was ready for arrest. Going on an offensive, Badal said this was a political drama set up by the Congress government. “I don’t want to waste time and resources of Punjab, so I have offered myself for arrest. Since they have decided to do so, I am here in Chandigarh for it. I will be happy if my last days are spent in Amarinder’s jail.”

Badal said that he stood up against political repression all his life, alleging that Capt Amarinder Singh had earlier also booked them in false cases. “Even my wife was put behind bars. So, I am sure they are arresting us again,” he said.
