Pathankot: 10 August: Paying homage to the watershed moment of India, 75th anniversary of Quit India movement, district administration led by Deputy Commissioner Neelima dedicated a 100 feet tall Indian flag to the people at administrative complex on Wednesday. To memorise this event, an impressive function was held under the chairmanship of D C Neelima. DC Gurdaspur Amit Kumar was chief guest on this occasion. SSP Viveksheel Soni and ADC Kulwant Singh were also present.
The event, which witnessed the attendance of a large number of Pathankot citizens, started with the police guard of honour followed by the National Anthem. Families of freedom fighters were honoured on this occasion.
This project is brainchild of DC Gurdaspur, Amit Kumar and it has been completed with the collaboration of Jan Kalyan society. The society has spent more than Rs12 lac on this project.
The flag will be 100 foot tall and will be able to be seen from the top of any buildings of the Pathankot. With its installation, Pathankot has joined the list of Indian cities that have 100 feet tall India Flag that flutters up high at an angle from where one can have a bird’s eye view.
“The flag will evoke a feeling of patriotism among city residents. It will give the city a new identity. We plan to come up with quite a few more unique ideas for the benefit of the city in the coming days” said DC Neelima.
DC Gurdaspur Amit Kumar said “Such events inject a feeling of patriotism in our heart. The feeling on oneness gets blossomed in the heart of all the people”. This motivates our people, both young and old, to come forward and contribute towards the nation, he said.
ADC Kulwant Singh said “its respect and tribute to the freedom fighters, who had sacrificed their lives for securing freedom for the country. It is very important that we pay tribute to these leaders”.
