Patiala, July 24: Mohinder Kaur, matriarch of the erstwhile Patiala royalty and mother of Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh, passed away after prolonged illness at her residence in Patiala on Monday. The cremation would be held at Shahi Samadhan, the royal crematorium, on Tuesday. She was the last designated queen of the estate ruled by the Phulkian dynasty. She also remained a member of Parliament.
Aged above 90, the ‘Rajmata’ had been admitted to a local private hospital in March.
A spokesperson for the hospital had said she was under observation in the gastroenteritis division although her health was stable then. Sources had said that she had not eaten anything for two days. She was hospitalised in the past too due to age-related health problems.
