With the commitment to provide rich quality fruits and vegetables free from all type of pesticides, Punjab Food and Drug Administration (PFDA) were carried out checking drive into Mandis throughout the state.
Disclosing this here today, Commissioner of Punjab Food and Drug Administration Kahan Singh Pannu informed that the special checking drive has conducted in 74 fruits and vegetables. Special checking teams have constituted for this operation on district and secretary market committee level throughout the state.
Commissioner further said that focus has been given on fruits ripened with unscientific method and vegetables not fit for human consumption during the drive. However polythene bags have been recovered, which were seized on the spot. Checking teams also took initiative to aware the farmers about the ill effects of this evil during the drive and issued show cause notices to Arthiyas for usage of polythene. He said that 55.34 quintal fruits and vegetables, which were not been able to edible, were destroyed on the spot.
Pannu told that 2.70 quintals of fruits and vegetables wer destroyed at Mukerian during the drive. However 1.20 quintals of cabbage and tomatoes at Garhsankar, 1.05 quintals vegetables at Rupnagar, 3.20 quintals of fruits at Ludhiana, 2.10 quintals of vegetables at Jagraon, 1.60 quintals vegetables at Machhiwara, two quintal fruits at Moga,
1.25 quintals fruits and vegetables at Batala, 1.95 quintal fruits and vegetables at Pathankot, 1.32 quintal of fruits and vegetables at Amritsar and 1.20 quintal Bananas at Jalandhar city were destroyed. He further said that 2.32 quintal vegetables which are not fit for human consumption were destroyed at Rajpura, while 2.50 quintals fruits and vegetables at Patiala, 17 quintals fruits and vegetables at Patran, 14.30 quintals vegetables at Sunam, 2.10 quintal fruits and vegetables at Samana, 2.40 quintal vegetables at Barnala. 3.60 quintal Mango at Sarhind, 1.42 quintal fruits and vegetables at Bathinda, 2.42 quintals fruits and vegetables at Rampura Phool, 1.39 quintal fruits and vegetables at Faridkot, 2.2 quintal fruits and vegetables at Mansa were destroyed.
