Batala, January 5: The suicide of international women karate player Kuldeep Kaur on Wednesday has taken a new twist with the brother of the deceased, Satwant Singh, an Army Havildar posted in Arunachal Pradesh, openly casting aspersions on the role of Cabinet minister Tripat Rajinder Singh Bajwa.
Satwant Singh, in a recorded statement, claimed that on October 24 last year his elder sister Balbir Kaur met Bajwa in his Chandigarh office where he allegedly told her that he was not in a position to help her family because they “owed loyalty to Ravi Karan Kahlon, youth SAD leader and son of former Speaker Nirmal Singh Kahlon.”
Bajwa admitted that Balbir Kaur had met him but vehemently denied using any derogatory language. To this, Satwant Singh said Bajwa, in very clear terms, had told her sister to “fend for herself” and that he could do nothing in the case.
Satwant added that Bajwa knew the entire case and also the fact that on October 24 last year, the accused had tried to run a tractor over his mother. “My father has been paralysed for the last several years. My mother is suffering from cancer and still she had the nerve to ask the accused to vacate the agriculture land owed by us. Bajwa knew all the facts and despite this he not only refused to help us but also branded us as Akali workers. I am an Army man and will mince no words in blaming Bajwa for the tragedy. The minister is openly influencing the policemen,” said a livid Satwant.
Deceased Kuldeep Kaur’s native village of Gujarpura falls in the jurisdiction of the Ghania-Ke-Bangar police station, which forms a part of the Fatehgarh Churian Assembly seat. Tripat Bajwa is the sitting Congress MLA from the seat. Nirmal Singh Kahlon has also remained a SAD legislator from Fatehgarh Churian.
