PM in Cabinet meeting; briefed on ‘success’ of operation

Date:

New Delhi, Feb 26: Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with his top ministers in his cabinet committee on security at his home in Delhi amid reports that India had carried out pre-dawn air strikes on terror camps across the Line of Control on Tuesday.

Twelve Mirage 2000 fighter jets of the Indian Air Force crossed the Line of Control around 3.30 am and dropped 1,000 kg laser-guided bombs on terror camps of the Jaish-e-Mohammed, completely destroying them, news agency ANI reported quoting Air Force sources.

Sources say the Prime Minister was briefed on the operation, what was achieved and the situation. Home Minister Rajnath Singh, Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj were at the meeting, apart from National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and other officials.

Sources said the strikes were “100 per cent successful” and went on “exactly as planned”. Reports said Indian fighter jets have destroyed terror launch pads across the Line of Control (LoC).

The operation has drawn strong political support across the board.
