Mohali, July 24: Police have recovered a weapon used by Harvinder Singh, alias Rinda, to gun down Manwinder Singh, alias Mindi — brother of slain gangster Rupinder Gandhi — on the revelation made by Dilpreet Singh Dahan, who was arrested in a joint operation by Chandigarh and Punjab Police on July 9.
“Dilpreet’s disclosure led us to the recovery of a .38 bore revolver that was used by his aide Rinda to kill Mindi in August last year. The weapon was recovered from Siswan area in Mohali. The accused had buried it in a vacant land to avoid being detected,” said Mohali senior superintendent of police (SSP) Kuldeep Singh Chahal.
This is the same revolver that Dilpreet was flaunting in a picture posted on his Facebook profile.
Dilpreet is presently in Mohali police custody in the case of attempt to murder on Punjabi singer Parmish Verma in April this year.
During his interrogation, Dilpreet said Rinda used to supply arms and ammunition to his gang. The weapons recovered from him at the time of his arrest on July 9 were also provided by Rinda, he told the police. Rinda is still at large.
On August 20 last year, two assailants had shot dead Mindi, former sarpanch of Rasoolra village in Khanna, and brother of gangster Rupinder Gandhi, outside his house. A day after Mindi’s murder, Gurjot Garcha of Ludhiana’s Dhandari, who is currently in Canada, had taken to Facebook claiming responsibility of the murder.
Police had in March this year arrested sharpshooter Naresh Kumar, alias Arjun, who told the police that he, along with Rinda, had killed Mindi, on the instructions of Garcha.
Mindi had produced a film on the life of his slain brother titled “Rupinder Gandhi – the Robin Hood”. He had also sponsored another movie, “Rupinder Gandhi – The gangster” that was released in 2015.
Mohali police are preparing a list of properties owned by gangster Dilpreet and his accomplices, Sukhpreet Singh, alias Budha, and Gaurav Patial, alias Lucky.
“We will check the revenue records and attach all the properties that are registered in the name of these gangsters,” the Mohali SSP said.
