Police registers case after intervention of Schedule Castes Commission

After intervention of Schedule Castes Commission, the Kapurthala Police have registered a case against Harwinder Singh S/o Surinder Singh R/o Village-Ranipur Rajputan, Tehsil-Phagwara under various sections of Schedule Caste and Schedule Tribes Prevention of Atrocities Act 2015.

Giving details about the case here today, Chairperson, Punjab State Commission for Scheduled Castes Mrs. Tejinder Kaur said that the complainant a former Sarpanch Parkash Singh had lodged a written complaint with the Commission in February, 2018. According to the complainant when he was visited the villages for the development works of the village as Sarpanch, then the accused were used to create scenes and abused him regarding his caste.

Chairperson said that the matter was investigated by Punjab Police and Bureau of Investigation but the Police and Bureau had the view to not to register a case in this regard and District Attorney also supported the rationale.

Mrs. Tejinder Kaur said that the Commission has again referred the matter to the Member of the Commission Mr. Gian Chand Diwali for in depth probation of all the facts. He informed the concerned District Police regarding the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe Prevention of Atrocities Act. After that a case has been registered by Kapurthala Police.
