Chandigarh, January 22: The mercury will dip by a notch or two after the city receives light rain on Tuesday. Ruling out downpour, the weatherman said the sky will turn cloudy on Monday night and it will rain on Tuesday.
“After light rain, the sky will again turn clear on Tuesday,” said Surender Paul, director of the India meteorological department’s local centre. This winter — from October 1 to January 20 — the city has received only 13.8mm rain as compared to the normal rainfall of 109mm during this period.
Normal rain in October is 31.8mm. But it didn’t rain during the month this season. The following month, against the normal of 9.9mm, the city received just traces of rain on November 18. In December, the city received 13.8mm rain against normal of 23.4mm. In January, which has normal rainfall of 44.3mm, it hasn’t rained yet.
Paul said the department will wait till February-end to see if the rainfall is actually deficient this winter.
