New Delhi, June 24
A non-committal JMM and an edgy JDS appear to have upset the campaign launch plan of Opposition presidential election candidate Yashwant Sinha.
Sinha was to launch the campaign from Jharkhand and was to meet the ruling JMM and RJD MLAs.
But with the JMM veering towards NDA candidate Droupadi Murmu and a formal call on the issue to be taken at a party meeting on Saturday, Sinha has decided to wait.
Further JDS chief and former PM HD Deve Gowda’s description of Murmu as a “suitable candidate” has further enhanced Opposition camp anxieties.
BJP chief JP Nadda personally called Deve Gowda today. The BJP has also been in touch with JMM which feels it has a commitment to Murmu, a former state Governor and a senior tribal leader.
Sinha was to start his campaign from Jharkhand but has decided to wait for a final call by the JMM on which way it will go.
