Punjab Sports Minister Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi congratulated Princepal Singh for his selection in League-G of National Basketball Association (NBA), the premier men’s professional basketball league of United States of America (USA).
Rejoicing over the selection of 19 year old 6 feet 10 inch tall player to play in NBA, Rana Sodhi said that after Satnam Singh Bhamra, Palpreet Singh Brar and Amjyot Singh Gill, Princepal Singh is 4th such player of Punjab, who brought laurels to the state. He said that Princepal Singh, who had been groomed in Ludhiana Basketball Academy, the prolific nursery running under Punjab Basketball Association and Basketball Federation of India, has worked hard to get this height.
Rana Sodhi wished him great success in future besides congratulating his father Gurmej Singh of village Qadian Gujjran of Dera Baba Nanak in Gurdaspur district, who brought him in a sports arena. He said that Princepal Singh’s entry in NBA’s developmental team for a select squad, closer to his dream of playing in the world’s snazziest league. Princepal Singh will be the third Indian player to play in the G-League of NBA. He will represent the 21-member NBA-Select team and will get a direct contract by the NBA. NBA Academy graduate Princepal Singh has signed to play in the NBA G League next season.
The Sports Minister said, Princepal Singh is a great inspiration for the youngsters of the state that how in odd situations he touched the skies of success as he was unknown about the basics of basketball till the age of 14.
Pertinent to mention here that Princepal Singh joined NBA Academy Delhi in 2017 and in November 2018 transitioned to the NBA Global Academy, Australia. Throughout his time in the NBA Academy program, he participated in several high-profile international basketball events such as Basketball Without Borders (BWB) Asia 2018, BWB Global 2018 and the NBA Global Camp 2018. He also represented India in international competitions as part of the Indian Men’s Senior National Team.
