Ferozepur, January 6, 2018: Arvinder Singh Chhina alias Pothi, former OSD to former BJP chief Kamal Sharma, today accused the district jail officials of unprincipled practices, favouritism and corruption, at a Press Conference in Press Club, Ferozepur.
Chinna is currently out on bail. He was arrested in 2015 for allegedly accepting a bring to make easy the release of drug peddler and he was lodged in the jail.
He said, he too had bribed jail officials to shift him to a better cell Initially, I resisted and complained about it to the Jail Superintendent. Later, I realised that it was a nexus and I had to fall in line or else, they would make my stay in jail miserable, said Chhina.
Chhina accused the Akalis of patronizing corrupt officials. He said drugs were easily available in jails. Prisoners are subjected to ill-treatment and are not even given healthcare. But those who can afford to grease the palms of jail officials are allowed to go out on “health grounds”, he alleged.
He also disclosed that some have died due to lack of proper treatment, and later, these were projected as natural deaths.
He said the mobiles are not recovered from the jail premises rather they are sold to the prisoners at the four-time the actual price. At the time of checking, the mobiles are recovered from those who manage from outside and the mobiles and drugs sold by them are hidden somewhere.
Prior to the visits of VIPs/officials, all prohibited articles are collected. The prisoners who have grievances are not allowed to meet the dignitaries,” he alleged.
On the other hand, jail authorities have denied the charges and there are no malpractices in the Central jail
