With the arrest three persons, including a property dealer, the Patiala Police on Tuesday claim to have cracked the sensational murder case of Swarn Singh, father-in-law of senior IAS officer and Markfed MD Varun Roojam.
Police said the property dealer, Jagtar Singh, was the main conspirator. They said that he allegedly hired contract killers from Haryana to kill Swarn Singh.
Three persons, including Jagtar Singh and two others, from Haryana have been arrested.
Swaran Singh (72) was shot dead by some unidentified persons near Rajpura last month.
Retired as a Superintending Engineer from the UT cadre, Swaran Singh had been staying in Chandigarh after his retirement.
He would visit a religious dera every on Sunday. On November 18, he was stopped by some unidentified men while on way to Chandigarh and shot.
“The accused shot him in the temple and chest with a .32 bore pistol,” the police said.
“The automatic vehicle that he had been driving later fell into a ditch,” said Rajpura DSP KK Panthe.
“The body remained lying in the car for over two hours. It was noticed by a passerby after which the police were informed,” he added.
Three shells of used bullets were found at the spot. Though Swaran Singh owned a licensed weapon, he was unarmed. “He had recently sold property and the murder could be a possible fallout,” the police had said.
