Capt understating public property damage by Premis: Sukhbir

Date:

Gurdaspur, Sep 1: Sukhbir Singh Badal, SAD president, claimed that Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh was misleading the people of the state over the damage done to public property in the aftermath of the sentencing of Gurmeet Ram Rahim.

“Hours after the dera chief was sentenced on August 25, public property worth crores went up in fire in Punjab where the dera sect has a a formidable presence. I have information that government property was burnt in Muktsar, Malout and other towns of Punjab. However, instead of owing up moral responsibility of the failure of the Punjab Police, Capt Amarinder has gone ahead to state that no damage has been done.

So much so I also have information that officers were instructed to go in for a massive cover-up exercise which they dutifully did. The CM should come clean on this issue. He should issue a statement detailing the damage done to government property,” said Sukhbir. He was addressing the media on the sidelines of a “Chinj” (village cultural festival) organised by former MLA GS Babbehali at his native village here on Thursday.

He added that Capt Amarinder had no right to criticise his Haryana counterpart. He welcomed the sentencing of the dera chief.Edit: An earlier version of the headline of this story wrongly read: “Capt overstating property damage by Premis: Sukhbir”
