Chandigarh, October 16: The Punjab Government is all set to host ‘Punjab Innovation & Technology Summit 2019’ on November 5 under its ‘Mission Innovate Punjab’ for developing a robust ecosystem for research & innovation to enhance competitiveness, boost economic growth and create employment.
Reviewing the preparedness of this mega event during a pre-summit meeting with academic and research institutions here at Punjab Bhawan, Principal Secretary Science, Technology and Environment Rakesh Verma said that this Summit would prove to be a healthy platform for the academicians, researchers, industrialists and environmentalists to evolve a comprehensive policy to put Punjab in the orbit of high growth trajectory besides infusing scientific tamper amongst our youth.
He said that this summit would be organised in association with Punjab Chamber of Commerce & Industry with an objective to promote Punjab as the Global destination for Innovations & Research.
The meeting also broadly discussed the contours of the Summit, which would focus on Innovation & Academia thereby boosting Research & its Commercialization. The session would also provide an opportunity in motivating universities to widen the scope of research and innovation with its application in various sectors including successful commercialization. Likewise, the inaugural session would be dedicated ‘Leveraging Punjab as Land of Opportunities for Innovations’ to be presided over by the Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh with the launch of Mission Innovate Punjab.
Dwelling on the theme of technical session on ‘Exploring Global opportunities for collaboration and Convergence’, Rakesh Verma said that it would offer a healthy platform to forge International collaborations in the critical fields like aerospace, robotics, critical infrastructure and disruptive technologies and utilization of Punjab research capabilities for fulfilling its innovative needs. The summit will also witness about 40 exhibits of research and innovation from universities, institutions, industry and start-ups.
The meeting was attended by 26 institutions (including host organizations) from the region such as IIT Ropar, IISER, Mohali; IIM Amritsar; NABI, Mohali; INST, Mohali; IMTECH, Chandigarh; PTU, Bathinda; Punjabi University, Patiala; GNDU, Amritsar; DAV University, Jalandhar; LPU, Jalandhar; Central University, Bathinda; PAU, Ludhiana; BFUHS, FaridKot; Chitkara University, Rajpura; Chandigarh University, Gharuan; NIT, Jalandhar; PEC, Chandigarh, etc.
