Punjab attracts Rs 21000 crore investments

Chandigarh, September 6 :

Punjab’s minister for investment promotion, labour and tourism, Ms Anmol Gagan Mann said, here today that “Under the visionary leadership of S. Bhagwant Singh Mann, Chief Minister, Government of Punjab, industry-friendly policies have attracted investment worth ₹21000 crores in the State. The influx of new industries and startups is expected to create more than 90,000 job opportunities in Punjab.

She was addressing a session on ‘Promoting Industrial Growth & Investments in Punjab’ with a focus on Ease of Doing Business, Tourism, Taxation, Power & Labour organised by the Confederation of Indian Industries, in Chandigarh.

“I welcome all industrialists to invest in Punjab, especially in the agri and food-processing sectors, and to give their suggestions for improving the investment climate in Punjab,” she said, adding the state government is working towards providing a seamless experience for the new industries and investors as they set up their businesses in Punjab. Highlighting the strength of the industrial environment in the State, the cabinet minister shared that connectivity in terms of road, railways, and airways is conducive to promoting industrial investment in the region. The Government of Punjab has also assured the availability of leasehold land. Simplification of processes such as single window systems and time-bound incentives have been paramount in attracting entrepreneurs and corporates alike.

During the session, CII Punjab State Council formally presented its recommendations to the State Government regarding the New Industrial & Investment Policy 2022 for the State. The key objective of the session was to deliberate on these recommendations, representing the views of renowned industry captains in Punjab.

Member, Rajya Sabha (AAP) & Chairman, Sun Foundation, Mr Vikramjit Singh Sahney shared a few suggestions to promote industrial growth in Punjab. He suggested establishing a focal point in the State in the Public-Private-Partnership model. He also proposed giving impetus to the agri value chain and exploring international markets for giving a boost to agri exports.

Principal Secretary – Power, Tourism & Cultural Affairs and Governance Reforms & Grievances Redressal, Government of Punjab, Mr Tejveer Singh said, “As part of the G20 summit, we have a great opportunity to showcase heritage cities such as Amritsar in Punjab to enhance tourism in the State. Punjab has huge potential and collectively, we should strive to give an impetus to the tourism sector by attracting investments.”

Principal Secretary – Industries, Commerce & Investment Promotion, Government of Punjab Mr Dilip Kumar shared that the draft of the New Industrial Policy 2022 for Punjab is ready and is being shared with the industry and potential investors for review. He welcomed suggestions and remarks on the same.

CEO of Punjab Bureau of Investment Promotion & Commissioner – Excise & Taxation, Punjab, Mr Kamal Kishor Yadav said that Punjab Government is in the process of creating a policy in which proper aftercare for the industry will be taken care of, especially for investors from other states.

Apart from the above dignitaries who attended the session, Mr Manvesh Sidhu, Secretary – Labour, Punjab, Mr Amit Thapar, Chairman – CII Punjab State & President, Ganga Acrowools Limited; Mr Sachit Jain, Past Chairman, CII Northern Region & Vice Chairman & Managing Director, Vardhman Special Steels; and Dr P J Singh, Vice Chairman, CII Punjab State & Chairman & Managing Director, Tynor Orthotics Private Limited were also present at the session.
