Amritsar, November 22: In a setback for the Badals’ SAD, Harvinder Singh Sarna of the SAD (Delhi) again got control of the Patna Sahib Gurdwara Committee. The Patna High Court has validated the committee constituted under Sarna, nullifying the one led by former SGPC chief Avtar Singh Makkar.
Makkar and his supporters have decided to move the Supreme Court to challenge the decision.
Sarna said the court had issued stay on an earlier order of the Patna sessions court, enabling him to occupy the president’s chair.
“We will pay obeisance at Takht Patna Sahib gurdwara tomorrow. The celebrations for Guru Gobind Singh’s birth anniversary will be held as per programme finalised already. I won’t comment on lower court’s verdict, but the HChas pronounced its decision on the basis of merit,” he said.
Makkar was the committee president for the last three years. Sarna had replaced him during a meeting held on September 3, but Makkar and his supporters moved the Patna sessions court, which gave its judgment in their favour. Sarna then challenged the verdict in the HC.
