Chandigarh, October 8: Punjab state has won eight medals at the National Skill Competitions, including three gold, one silver, two bronze medals, besides two other medallions. The competitions were held at Aurangabad, Chennai and Delhi from October 2 to 5.
Congratulating the winners and the team of Punjab Skill Development Mission for the achievement, the state’s Technical Education and Industrial Training and Employment Generation Minister Charanjit Singh Channi on Sunday said that Punjab Government will provide free training to the state’s youth to make them skilled and employable as per needs of the global industry.
Channi said that Punjab Government, under the Punjab Skill Development Mission, will felicitate the winners of National Skill Competitions and ensure that these candidates make their way to the best careers.
The medal winners will be trained by India Skills Team further to represent India in World Skill Competition scheduled in 2019 at Kazan, Russia.
Technical Education and Industrial Training secretary-cum-Punjab Skill Development Mission member secretary DK Tiwari said that it is for the first time that Punjab Skill Development Mission organized skill competitions in Punjab in 42 skills in which 4,800 candidates participated at zonal level.
The winners of zonal skill competitions competed in state skill competitions held in 26 skills at 20 venues. The Mission facilitated training of these candidates in industry and Centres of Excellence in Punjab and outside the State.
After training, these 52 winners of State Skill Competitions participated in regional skill competitions organized by India Skill held at Lucknow, Chennai, Jaipur and Bhuvneshvar.
“Total 14 candidates continued their journey from regional skill competitions to national skill competitions,” he said.
