Chandigarh, September 10: The Punjab Government has signed an MoU today with the Centre for establishment of GeM Organization Transformation Team (GOTT)-Project Management Unit (PMU). GOTT will assist the Buyer Departments and agencies to transform their business activities, competencies & models to fully leverage the opportunities of an open market-based procurement.
The MoU was inked by Mr. S Suresh Kumar, Joint Secretary cum Additional CEO GeM-SPV, Union Ministry of Commerce & Industries, and Mr. Sibin C., Director, Industries and Commerce, Punjab.
Disclosing this here today, an official spokesperson said that Punjab is an active partner with GeM and has clocked transactions worth Rs. 243.00 cr so far, with overall saving of Rs. 63.00 cr, approximately savings upto 26 percent on procurement.
It is worth mentioning that the Government e Marketing (GeM) is a public procurement portal launched by Government of India in August 2016. It gives transparency and accountability in public procurement which is one of the priorities of Government.
The National Portal for Public Procurement has achieved considerable scale in a short span of two years. It has generated more than 19 lakh transactions worth Rs. 36,000 cr. currently, in the country there are more than 10 lakh products offered by over 2.4 lakh vendors and the market is expanding day by day. In addition to the transparency, efficiency and inclusion of MSME vendors offered by the platform, there is an average saving of about 20-25% to the total cost of procurement.
The GeM has provided significant opportunities to MSMEs, Women SHGs and Start Ups to transact successfully with Centre and States and various agencies. This has boosted the Make in India initiative policy of promoting local MSMEs by providing them a market access.
On the occasion, Mr. Suresh Kumar Joint Secretary cum Additional CEO GeM-SPV, Ministery of Commerce and Industries and Mr. Upmith Singh, Vice President GeM-SPV, represented the Union Government while the Punjab Government was represented by Mr. Sibin C., Director, Department of Industries & Commerce, Punjab, Mr. Vineet Kumar Additional MD, PSIEC cum Special Controller of Stores and Mr. T L Khosla, Additional Controller of Stores and Harinderjit Singh, Assistant Controller, Controller of stores, Punjab.
