Punjab CM Charanjit Channi’s son gets married; Navjot Singh Sidhu gives it a miss

Date:

Chandigarh, October 10

Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi’s son Navjit Singh got married at a gurdwara in Mohali in a simple ceremony on Sunday.

Several leaders of the Congress—ministers, Members of Parliament, and legislators—attended the ceremony held at Sacha Dhan Gurdwara in Mohali.

Punjab Congress chief Navjot Singh Sidhu remained conspicuously absent. Sources in the party said Sidhu had flown to Jammu from Lucknow to visit Vaishno Devi with Minister Vijay Inder Singla and MLA Dr Raj Kumar Chabbewal.

“Darshan of the primordial mother during Navratras is synergising… Washes away all the dirt from the soul!! Blessed to be at the lotus feet of Mata Vaishno Devi,” he said in a tweet.

Navjit tied the knot with engineering graduate Simrandheer Kaur, a resident of Amlala village near Dera Bassi in Mohali district.

The ‘anand karaj’ according to Sikh rituals was performed at Gurdwara Sacha Dhan.

With his son seated next to him, the chief minister himself drove the SUV to the gurdwara.
