Punjab CM denied permission to visit Lakhimpur, deputy CM ”detained” by UP Police

Chandigarh, October 4: In view of the imposition of Section 144, the Uttar Pradesh Government has denied the permission to Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi and Deputy Chief Minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa to visit Lakhimpur Kehri following the recent incident of violence there yesterday.

Disclosing this here today, a spokesperson of the Chief Minister said that Secretary Home, Uttar Pradesh government has informed the Director Civil Aviation, Punjab in response to his letter seeking permission for landing and taking off of Chief Minister’s Chopper at Lakhimpur Kheri, that it is not feasible to grant permission to the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister keeping in view of the law and order situation.

Notably, the Chief Minister had earlier planned to rush to Lakhimpur Kheri to meet the bereaved families in this hour of crisis. Meanwhile, the Chief Minister had yesterday ordered the Deputy Chief Minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa and MLA Kuljit Singh Nagra to visit the place of incident to ascertain the situation and share sympathies with the victim families.
