Chandigarh, January 7: Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh is likely to meet the Congress national president Rahul Gandhi on Monday.
Capt Amarinder, who reached the national capital on Sunday, is expected to be accompanied by party’s state affairs in-charge Asha Kumari and Punjab Congress president Sunil Jakhar.
The ensuing 2019 Lok Sabha elections would be the prime issue during the meeting, however the possible reshuffling in the Cabinet, change of guard in Punjab Congress, and deciding upon the names for heading government’s various boards and corporations would also be taken up for discussion during the meeting.
The decision on these issues has been pending as the Congress high command was busy with the assembly elections for the five states.
Rahul Gandhi has already discussed in detail the issues, but did not take the final call on the same. Capt Amarinder, in November, had discussed the performance of Punjab Cabinet Ministers, following which the ouster of Charanjit Singh Channi from the council of ministers was suggested after his name surfaced in #MeToo controversy.
Channi, who was given prominence within the party being a dalit leader, is expected to be replaced by another Dalit MLA Raj Kumar Verka.
Besides, a major reshuffle of the ministries is also on the cards. It has been learnt that couple of ministers may be given more responsibility, while some may face an exit.
The decision on finding Jakhar’s replacement as the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) president may also come up for discussion.
During the meeting, the decision on the names of MLAs, to be accommodated in the boards and corporations, is expected to be finalised. It has been learnt that in the first round, the party would appoint 10 MLAs as heads of these government Boards and Corporations.
