The Punjab Government has released an amount of about Rs. 4 crore for the construction of new gates and repair of old gates of primary and middle schools to beautify the facades of the schools as well as to ensure the safety of the students.

According to a spokesperson of the Punjab School Education Department, about 70 per cent of government schools in state have been converted into smart schools, which has resulted in complete transformation of these schools. But 98 schools in the state do not have gates and 1622 are about to be repaired. So, the Director General of School Education Ms. Isha Kalia has issued a letter for the release of Rs. 3.93 crore for this purpose.

According to the spokesperson, at present 81 primary schools and 17 middle schools across the state do not have gates. A total amount of Rs. 68.60 lakh has been released for their construction.
