Punjab obtains clearance of PMGSY-III project

Punjab has obtained sanction for upgradation and strengthening of rural roads and bridges under Pardhan Mantri Gram Sarak Yojana (PMGSY) -III (Batch2) project from Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India.

Informing this Mr. Vijay Inder Singla, PWD Minister, Punjab said that the Project entails upgradation of 106 roads with road length of 1010 Km at an estimated cost of Rs.743 Cr. Under this project roads of 69 community blocks in 18 Districts (Amritsar, Bathinda, Barnala, Ferozepur, Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur, Jalandhar, Kapurthala, Ludhiana, Mansa, Moga, Mohali, Muktsar, Nawanshahr, Pathankot, Patiala, Sangrur & Tarn Taran) shall be upgraded. Mr. Singla further informed that 90 roads will be widened to 5.50 m width, 13 roads to 3.75 m width, 3 roads will have riding-surface quality improvement work. The works are likely to be start by June, 2021 on ground after completing the procurement process.

Mr. Vikas Pratap, Principal Secretary, PWD (B&R) informed that The Government of India had already approved the PMGSY- III (Batch1) project comprising of upgradation of 98 roads with length of 1045 Km with a cost of Rs.735 Cr. covering 75 Community blocks in 12 Districts (Bathinda, Barnala, Faridkot, Fatehgarh Sahib, Fazilka, Hoshiarpur, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Moga, Mohali, Patiala & Sangrur). The tendering process has been completed and the compliance of all the observations raised during the Empowered Committee meeting has been made by the State Government. The works are being awarded and the work shall commence on ground in the month of April, 2021.

It was also informed that both these PMGSY-III projects (Batch 1 and Batch 2) will be executed on 60:40 fund sharing basis i.e. 60% share from Govt. of India and 40% share from State Government. These roads will be under 5 years routine maintenance contract and the same agency will be maintaining the roads. The funds for routine maintenance to the tune of about Rs.100 Cr. shall be provided by the State Government. The State is all geared up for delivering good quality rural roads connecting all villages with important facilities including agriculture markets, educational institutions, health care centres & transport facilities.
