Chandigarh, December 20: The Punjab State Scheduled Casts Commission has decided to sensitize the Punjab Police about the various provisions of the SC/ST Act. It was disclosed by Tejinder Kaur Chairperson of the Punjab SC Commission.
She said that ADGP (Investigation Bureau) Gurpreet Deo today appeared before the SC Commission in connection with a hearing on a case. She said that during this meeting, discussions were held with regard to the inefficiency of the police officers for not resolving the complaints filed by SCs as per the provisions of the SC Act. She said that the issue of non-compliance of some clauses of SC Act like filing of challan within the stipulated 60 days was of serious concern.
Tejinder Kaur said that responding to apprehensions put forward by ADGP (Investigation Bureau) Gurpreet Deo assured the Commission that she would issue written directions to all the SSPs to organize special training sessions for the district police in Police Lines to sensitize them about the various provision of the SC/ST Act.
The SSPs would also be asked to file action taken report in this regard. Orders would also be issued to ensure compliance of the provision of filing challan within 60 days, she added.
