In Punjab, rape convict’s land auctioned for Rs 91 lakh

Faridkot district revenue authorities had held the auction as per the directions of the Punjab and Haryana high court.

BATHINDA: With no one coming forward to make a bid to purchase the agricultural land of rape convict Nishan Singh of Faridkot, the district Red Cross Society on Tuesday purchased 3.5 acres for Rs 91 lakh. The Society then purchased the property.Red Cross gave Rs 25 lakh to the officials and assured to pay the remaining amount soon. Red Cross society purchased the land for Rs 91lakh. The district administration had identified 35 kanal (little less than 3.5 acres) agriculture land and 12 kanal (1.5 acres) non-agriculture residential property.
