Punjab Vidhan Sabha pays homage to 39 Indians killed in Iraq

Chandigarh, March 20: The Vidhan Sabha on Tuesday mourned the death of 39 Indians who were killed in Iraq. Addressing the House after Speaker Rana KP Singh read out the list of names on the Assembly agenda of obituaries, Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh said he was shattered at the heart-wrenching news of the death of the kidnapped Indians.

The CM later tweeted “My heart goes out to the families who had been living in hope since their reported abduction by ISIS in 2014. Prayers be with all of them.

”In the obituary references, the House mourned the demise of former ministers Ajit Singh Kohar, Sardool Singh Bandala and Manjit Singh Calcutta; former MPs Satnam Singh Kainth and Bahadar Singh; actor Shashi Kapoor; and freedom fighters Jangir Singh, Saroop Singh, Hardial Singh, Karam Singh, Sham Lal, Kartar Singh and Dalip Singh.

The House also remembered martyr Naik Amarseer Singh, singers Pyare Lal Wadali and Sabar Koti, Dronacharya awardee Sukhchain Singh Cheema, Prof Rajpal Singh and Governor VP Singh Badnore’s brother Raghuraj Singh.On a resolution moved by AAP MLA Nazar Singh Manshahia, homage was paid to 89 farmers who had committed suicide.
