Punjab vidhan speaker orders probe CM raises oppositions social media live streaming issue

Date:

Chandigarh, March 22: Punjab Vidhan Sabha Speaker KPS Rana on Thursday ordered a probe into the reported live streaming of proceedings of the House on social media by some opposition members, after Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh raised the issue.

While the Chief Minister expressed grave concern over the violation of the Assembly rules, Technical Education Minister Charanjit Singh Channi sought an inquiry into the matter, to which the Speaker agreed.

Raising the issue, the Chief Minister said opposition members going live on Facebook from the House was a serious matter. He requested the Speaker to direct all members to strictly follow the rules and maintain the dignity of the august House.

Without naming any member, Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh informed the House that it had come to the Government’s notice that an opposition member had put the proceedings of Assembly in public domain by live-streaming them yesterday. Channi then intervened in the ensuing discussion to demand an inquiry into the reported incident.

While directing all members to strictly adhere to the Assembly Conduct Rules, Speaker cited Rule 90 which states that all members should switch off their mobiles or other communication devices which they were carrying on their person before entering the House.

The issue was earlier highlighted by the media after reports of LIP MLA Simarjeet Singh Bains live-streaming the House proceedings on Wednesday.
