Chandigarh March 18 :
Aiming to curb the menace of corruption in the state, the Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) on Saturday nabbed a Panchayat Secretary and a private person, who is husband of village Sarpanch, red handed accepting bribe of Rs. 5,000.
Disclosing this here, a spokesperson of the VB said the bureau had launched a crusade on the directions of chief minister Bhagwant Mann to eradicate the corrupt practices among the government offices and public life in the state. In this regard the VB has caught Gurpreet Singh, Panchayat Secretary posted at village Bhag Singh Wala, under BDPO office Sadik, Faridkot district and husband of the village Sarpanch Gurpreet Singh for demanding and accepting bribe of Rs 5,000 from the complainant Harbans Singh of the same village.
He added that the complainant has approached the Bureau and alleged that accused Panchayat Secretary and husband of above said village Sarpanch were demanding bribe of Rs 10,000 to release third instalment of grant approved in the name of his mother under the government scheme for BPL families to construct new homes. The complainant further informed that both the said accused have asked to pay the money in two instalments but he didn’t want to pay the bribe money.
After finding the veracity of facts a vigilance team from Ferozepur unit laid a trap and both the accused were nabbed red handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000 in the presence of two official witnesses.
The spokesperson informed that in this regard case under FIR No. 10, dated 18-03-2023, under section 7, 7(a) of Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered at Vigilance Bureau Police Station Ferozepur range. Further investigation was under progress.
