Chandigarh, December 1: The month of November was almost a dry one for Punjab. Northern districts received isolated light rain activities during the beginning of November between 1 and 3. Thereafter light rains with one or two light spells occurred during November 13 and 14.
During Winter season, Punjab receives rain activities due to the formation of Western Disturbances over Himalayas. Whenever any active Western Disturbance reaches Jammu & Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh, it normally induces a Cyclonic Circulation over Punjab and Haryana and sometimes over North Rajasthan which results in rain over the states.
This year November witnessed only two active Western Disturbance which resulted in scattered rains on the above-mentioned dates.
Until now, both day and night temperatures of Punjab are above normal therefore this November is turning out to be warmer than that of 2017. We do not expect any significant rains over Punjab for at least next one week as the Western Disturbance which will approach Western Himalayas will be feeble in nature and may not be capable of any weather activities.
Now, Northwesterly winds are blowing over Punjab therefore we expect a drop in minimum temperatures over the states by a couple of degrees during the next two days.
Today Amritsar has recorded its lowest minimum of the season which is 6.2 degree Celsius. But still it is one degree above normal. So, we can say, Punjab will have to wait for shivering cold winters for at least one week and we do not expect much rains in the coming days also.
