Panga Productions to Invest $20M in Punjabi Film, TV & Music Industry

Surrey, BC based film studio Panga Productions is set to reshape Punjabi cinema over the coming years by investing $20 Million.

The studio is not a traditional production house and this becomes evident as soon as you meet the founder, Taran Gill. He is a successful technology entrepreneur with a masters degree in Computer Science from Georgia Tech.

“The tech industry has developed a model to launch startups through incubators such as Y-Combinator & Techstars. We are transferring the same concept to successfully launch upcoming Punjabi artists through films, TV shows and songs”, said Gill.

Panga Productions is poised to disrupt the Punjabi film, TV and music industry with its unique business model. The studio will maintain minimal staff on-hand as they encourage artists to form their own teams and apply for funding. This gives the artists freedom to choose the people they wish to work with. Vancouver is among the top film destinations in the world and Surrey is home to the largest concentration of the Punjabi diaspora. If necessary, the studio promises to fill-in any missing gaps as they have experienced directors, actors, scriptwriters, etc. as part of their network.

Outside of launching upcoming and aspiring talent, Panga Productions also plans to begin signing some of the more popular Punjabi artists and singers. This will put them in direct competition with more established music and film production houses.

“Our goal for 2018 is to be at the forefront of Punjabi cinema. Through partnerships with artists, we expect to generate more content than any other studio. Using technology and online channels, we expect to reach a much larger audience. Our state-of-the-art studio in Surrey will house the latest video production equipment. This is an exciting time for Punjabi cinema. We are looking forward to be a part of this movement and driving it forward”, added Gill.

Punjabi cinema brought in approximately $100M in box-office revenue in 2017. With their sizeable investment, Panga Productions is sure to make a significant impact in the industry. Film pundits will eagerly be watching to see how this year will unfold in Pollywood.
