Pvt schools not enrolling poor students: Khaira

Date:

Chandigarh, February 14: Leader of Opposition Sukhpal Khaira today alleged that due to the state government’s attitude poor children are being denied their right to study in private schools under the Right to Education Act.

Releasing RTI information, Khaira said in the past seven years not a single admission of poor child took place in private schools despite that RTE ensures that every private school will take 25 per cent poor children from government schools. He said the state government deliberately introduced a clause which ensured that no poor child could study in private schools in that category.

He along with activists of the Ambedkar Bhali Manch, Kharar, said the government had issued a notification in October 2011 that if poor children can’t get admission in government or government-aided schools, they can study in private schools and their fee will be paid by the Education Department.

But before that the children have to take no-objection certificate from the area’s government school, which has not been issued even in a single case. He demanded that the state should drop the condition of taking an NOC from government schools.
