Mohali, August 09: QuarkCity India Pvt Ltd. has announced 1000 scholarships in memory of Late Rajmata Mohinder Kaur, in addition to 1000 subsidised housing units for the economically weaker sections of Punjab.
These announcements were made by Fred Ebrahimi, Chairman of the company, at the ground-breaking ceremony of a new IT/ITES building at the QuarkCity complex in Mohali on Wednesday evening.
Fred, who has a strong affinity for Punjab, said the project was not a commercial venture for him but something he wanted to do for the state, especially in view of the support he had always received from Captain Amarinder Singh. Captain Amarinder had encouraged him to launch projects for building spaces for other IT companies, said Fred, adding that he always had a soft corner for Punjab as he had been helped by some Punjabis to learn the job when he was working in a refinery in Iran.
Fred said the positive and industry-friendly attitude of the Captain Amarinder government had enabled them to do more in the past six months than in the past one decade. For the past 10 years, businessmen and industry captains were treated like sixth class citizens in Punjab, tortured and harassed by bureaucrats and politicians, not allowed to create jobs.
Fred waved a pile of files that formed the communication presented by them to the erstwhile government, without evoking any response. He said all industrialists and businessmen had met the same fate, causing the state to tumble down from its number one position till a decade back to a poor has-been.
Fred suggested strong branding of Mohali to attract customers, to which the Chief Minister suggested having a strategic vision to sell Mohali as a favoured business destination.
