Chandigarh, May 8: Punjab Vidhan Sabha Speaker Rana KP Singh on Friday greeted the people on Maharana Pratap Jayanti.
In a message on the eve of the Maharana Pratap Jayanti, the Speaker said that Maharana Pratap is a hero of the nation. History has witnessed that Maharana Pratap had not only safeguarded the interests of any particular section but all sections of the society. He had fought for the sovereignty of Mewar.
Notably, Maharana Pratap was born on May 9, 1540 to Mata Jaivanta Bai and Maharana Udai Singh at a Kumbhalgarh fort, Mewar. Maharana Pratap had fought against the Mughal emperor Akbar, and never submitted to the mughals. The battle of Haldighati which took place in 1576, is a testimony to his unparalleled bravery.
During his 25-year reign, Maharana Pratap fought battles for 22 years. It symbolizes his heroism as a great warrior. Rana KP Singh said that patriotism of Maharana Pratap is immortal and even today he is a source of inspiration for the younger generation of the country.
Rana. K. P. Singh said that due to the lockdown, no function is being organized on Maharana Pratap Jayanti this year but he appealed to the people light lamps and garland the picture, if possible, of Maharana Pratap at their homes at 8 pm to pay homage to this great son of India.
