Chandigarh, February 27: Punjab Sports Minister Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi today said that sports department will present fact-finding report in sport kits and gym equipments distribution irregularities in the state during the SAD-BJP regime.
While answering a query in Punjab Vidhan Sabha today on the fifth day of Budget session, he announced that fact-finding report, into the irregularities of distribution of sports equipments worth Rs.30 crore to be submitted within 30 days.

Rana Sodhi further said that there were numerous reports and complaints of misappropriation of sports kits and gym equipments’ distribution in the state during the SAD-BJP regime, thus it becomes necessary to look into the matter.
Responding to the question of MLA Mr. Pawan Kumar Tinu that why sports kits were not distributed to the players yet, Rana Sodhi informed that state government has no such policy, adding that “rather there were many complaints regarding sports kits and gym equipments, distributed during SAD-BJP tenure. There was no record on what basis and which club was given kits and gym equipments by the then government. Hence, in view of the seriousness of the matter and incurred huge amount to the tune of Rs.30 crores, it demands thorough probe.”
Earlier, MLA asked about the number of players inducted in sports wings and facilities provided to them during the year 2019-20. Answering the query, the Minister said that in the month of July, 2019 and later on, total 4140 players were inducted in various sports wings. He said that residential and day-scholar players are being provided Rs.200 and Rs.100 respectively per player per day for food/refreshments, training and sports kits.
The Sports Minister also said that free facility of hostel, diet, medical assistance and education are also provided to the residential players. He categorically pointed out that special tuition arrangements were also made for the players weaker in studies.
