Guruharsahi, November 20, 2020: Punjab Sports and Youth Affairs Minister, Rana Gurmeet Singh Sodhi deeply mourned the untimely demise of a farmer Baldev Singh at Mamujahia Toll Plaza during a protest against the three Farm Bills and handed over a cheque of financial assistance of Rs.3 lac to the surviving family members – Manjit Kaur wife, Raman Kumar and Vipan Kumar sons. Earlier also the financial assistance of Rs.2 lac was given to the deceased family, by the district administration.
Sharing his condolences with the grief-stricken family, Rana Sodhi said that it was an irreparable loss for the entire family and prayed to the Almighty to give enormous strength to bear this huge loss in this hour of crisis and grant eternal peace to the departed soul.
Rana Sodhi said, the farmers of Punjab are fighting for the rights of the farmers of the entire country. He said the three black farm laws passed by the Centre government will not only affect the farmers’ community but all sections of the society.
He also gave assurance to the bereaved family regarding clearing the debt waiver in the name of the deceased farmer as per the rules. He also told that the government would extend all possible help to the family.
Later, Farmers Outfits also presented a turban to the sons of the deceased farmer, which signifies honour of the family and the transition of responsibility for the protection and welfare of the family from the deceased to the surviving oldest male member.
