Mohali, October 25: In a case of corruption involving Punjab Public Service Commission’s former chairman Ravinderpal Singh Sidhu aka Ravi Sidhu, the recovered money, amounting to around Rs 9.5 crore, has been deposited in the treasury after sealing it.

Earlier, a large sum, containing mostly old currency notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000, were counted before the court with the help of counting machines. It took more than two days for the purpose. “If needed, the defence counsel would again request the court for recounting the money,” said the sources.

In today’s court proceedings, the witness of Investigating Officer in the case DIG Jaskaran Singh, the then SP when the case was registered and who had recovered the amount in question, was being examined. Sources said so far around 50 witnesses had been examined, while nearly 35 witnesses were yet to be examined.

The accused have been facing charges of corruption, preparing fake will to grab property, and “hawala” in the case which was registered in 2002.
