RCMP catches couple with over $1.6 million worth drugs at Pearson Airport

The RCMP have charged two Brampton parents after they allegedly tried to bring in large quantities of cocaine, hash and marijuana through Pearson Airport in a suitcase.

According to the RCMP, the couple and their two children, ages 10 and 12 were examined by border agents after arriving from Jamaica on Feb. 7.

During the examination, border agents allegedly discovered approximately 7.7 kilograms of cocaine, 93 kilograms of marijuana and 218 grams of hashish. 

The suitcase concealing the cannabis was allegedly checked in under the ticket of the 12-year-old child.

Canada Border Services Agency estimates the value of the seized drugs at over $1.6 million.

They said the cocaine was valued around $960,000 the cannabis at $680,000 and the hashish at $4,300.

The RCMP-Toronto Airport Detachment started the investigation and charged both parents with three counts of importation of a controlled substance and three counts of conspiracy to commit an indictable offence. 

The RCMP said arrangements were made with Peel Children’s Aid Society to release the children to other family members. 

The two adults have been released on bail and are scheduled to appear at the A. Grenville and William Davis Courthouse in April 2021.
