Chandigarh, July 9: Most Wanted Dilpreet Singh Baba was arrested after a brief encounter with the joint operation by special branch of Punjab Police Intelligence wing and Chandigarh Police on Monday.
It was his addiction to heroin (chitta) that made him fall in the trap of police. Vital leads to his arrest were provided by drug peddlers who were recently arrested by the Jalandhar Police and were in regular touch with Dilpreet.
After the tipoff from Jalandhar Police, three deputy superintendents of police Tejinder Singh Sandhu, Rajiv Yadav and Rakesh Kumar led the operation which was assisted by 9 inspectors and over 50 other cops.
Special teams from Mohali, Fazilka, & Ferozepur were called. After the trap was well planned, a team of Chandigarh crime branch was called on the spot at the secluded backside of ISBT 43 where the gangster was waiting to pick the contraband.
As soon as Dilpreet Baba reached the spot in a white sedan (HR 04G 0834), police team confirmed his vehicle number & appearance from his associates.
As soon as they intercepted his car, he tried to run away. To block his way, Inspector Amanjot Singh of Chandigarh Crime Branch banged his SUV into the gangster’s car. Another team of Punjab Police hurled bricks at the windscreen of his sedan, to which he retaliated with gun shots. In the resultant cross firing, Baba was hit by a bullet on his thigh. He was first rushed to Civil Hospital Mohali for first-aid and then taken to PGI.
At the time of the operation, Baba was wearing shorts and slippers. He had changed his looks of his Facebook images sporting a long beard with a turban with trimmed hair and shorn beard.
