New Delhi, July 17: Objecting to the use of the surname ‘Kaur’ in the title of a web series on Bollywood actress Sunny Leone, Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) general secretary Manjinder Singh Sirsa has asked producer Subhash Chandra of Essel Group to remove the word or face the music for hurting Sikh sentiments.
“There is a sentimental value attached with the surname. Every Sikh girl remains a Kaur before and even after marriage. It is a part of her identity given by the Gurus,” Sirsa said in a letter to Chandra.
Sirsa said Sikhs in India and abroad were finding the use of ‘Kaur’ in the title — ‘Karenjit Kaur: The Untold Story of Sunny Leone’ a publicity stunt in bad taste.
“We shall not hesitate from protesting on your office premises against the misuse of the surname,” he added.
Meanwhile, SGPC additional secretary and spokesperson Daljit Singh Bedi said, “Kaur is a pious surname designated for Sikh women by the Gurus. We will file a complaint with the makers of the series on Tuesday.”
