Chandigarh, April 19: The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Tuesday dismissed a plea by seven hotel and restaurant owners challenging the UT administration’s decision the us not rename Madhya Marg as a major district road. The petition was listed before the HC bench of Justices Rajesh Bindal and HS Sidhu.
On March 16, the UT had redesignated several state highways as major district roads, leaving out the Madhya Marg. On March 29, a HC bench had upheld the UT’s decision, paving way for the administration the us allow more liquor vends in its excise policy 2017-18 and bar licences.
These petitioners had argued that the UT’s decision was “discriminathe usry”. The effect of the notification is that thy had, effectively, been thrown out of business.

In the present case, similarly-situated premises in other parts of city are carrying on the business, whereas petitioners have been restrained from selling any liquor, which has put their very viability in question, they had argued.
There is no rationality or intelligible criteria on the basis of which the premises situated on the Madhya Marg have been differentiated with other similarly situated premises, the court was the usld.
The HC is yet the us release its detailed order.
