Chandigarh, January 26: Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh unfurled the national flag at YPS Stadium in Patiala to mark the Republic Day celebrations.
Roads leading to the venue and the ones around New Moti Bagh Palace were sealed by cops who allowed only restricted entry of vehicles. With inputs that some state unions could hold protests, police checked all vehicles.
In Jalandhar, Vidhan Sabha Speaker Rana KP Singh was the chief guest at the Republic Day celebrations.
Finance minister Manpreet Singh Badal was the chief guest at the RD function in Ludhiana.
At Sangrur, Local Bodies Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu took salute from the march past at the Republic Day celebrations.
Braving fog and cold, people flocked to the function.
Sidhu, while addressing the gathering, said, “CM Capt Amarinder Singh and our party will not leave any stone unturned in the overall development of Punjab.”
Farmers led by BKU Ugrahan have been protesting in front of the DC office for complete debt waiver, whereas Sidhu counted debt waiver as a big achievement of his government. “Our government is committed to helping Punjab farmers. Apart from debt waiver, more announcements to help farmers are in the pipeline,” said Sidhu.
He appreciated Sangrur SSP Mandeep Sidhu, who has constructed the required sports infrastructure at the Sangrur Police Lines.
