Rewari, September 17: Shocking details have emerged in the rape of 19-year-old former CBSE topper in Rewari with the Haryana police arresting a doctor as well who had provided medical aid to the victim after the accused sought his help. The police has so far arrested three people including one of the main accused, Nishu Phogat. Two others, Pankaj, an Army man, and Manish, are on the run.
Yesterday the police arrested Deen Dayal, owner of the tube well room where the 19-year-old BSc (first year) student was allegedly gangraped on September 12, and Sanjeev, a registered medical practitioner (RMP) in Naya Gaon village, who gave medical aid to the victim at the crime scene on the suspects’ request.
The arrests came as the government ordered the transfer of Rewari SP Rajesh Duggal. He has been replaced by SP (Security) Rahul Sharma, who assumed charge of the post barely four months ago. Duggal will lead 3rd Battalion, Haryana Armed Police, Hisar.
Nuh SP Nazneen Bhasin, heading the special investigation team (SIT) probing the case, said Nishu had hatched the plot to rape the victim and later called up the RMP to treat her. “He was arrested by a special team on a tip-off. Raids are on to arrest the other two,” she said.
Around 20 youths have also been rounded up from the village for questioning.
“Deen Dayal claimed the three had borrowed the key to the room from him on the day of the incident. He knew about the crime and went into hiding instead of informing the police,” said Bhasin.
“The SIT members have been camping in the village since Saturday. We have questioned over 100 people so far, and collected vital evidence. We are awaiting a report from the Forensic Science Laboratory,” he said.
The suspects would be produced in court on Monday and the SIT would seek their police remand.
The suspects had allegedly offered the victim spiked water while she was returning home from a coaching centre in Kanina town of Mahendragarh.
When the victim fainted, the suspects allegedly took her to a tubewell room and raped her. They later left her unconscious at a bus stand in Kanina.
