Rohtak, May 11: The Head of the Department of Nephrology at the PGIMS, Rohtak, has been suspended for alleged malpractices and for private practice despite claiming non-practice allowance from the government. A vigilance probe has also been ordered into the matter.
The Additional Chief Secretary (Medical Education and Research) has written a letter to the Registrar of Pt Bhagwat Dayal Sharma University of Health Sciences (UHS) for initiating appropriate action against Dr Amit Mann.
University Registrar Prof HK Agarwal admitted the communiqué was placed before the university’s Executive Council, which endorsed it during its meeting held here on Thursday evening.
Meanwhile, Dr Mann said the action was taken against him because he tried to expose the corrupt practices and wrongdoings of a senior functionary at the PGIMS.
Dr Mann had lodged a written complaint with the UHS authorities alleging a private vendor in connivance with certain staffers of the institute was illegally selling medicines to patients undergoing dialysis at the PGIMS.
He had alleged that a senior professor with a “special interest in nephrology” had misused his designation to influence and float tenders on behalf of the Department of Nephrology and even signed as HoD Nephrology in certain communications with the purchase department.
