Chandigarh/Rupnagar ,February 24 :
Rupnagar district has won laurals for the of state Punjab by notching first position in the country in the effective implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana which completes two years on February 24. Mr. Narinder Singh Tomar, Union Agriculture Minister today conferred the award in this regard to Rupnagar district in a function organised in New Delhi.
It was disclosed by Mrs. Sonali Giri, Deputy Commissioner in a press communique released here today. She said that the award was received by Dr. Sukhdev Singh Sidhu, Director Agriculture, Punjab and Mr. Avtar Singh, Chief Agriculture Officer on behalf of the district administration. Elaborating upon the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana, she said that it is a government scheme that gives Rs 6,000 annual subsidy to the registered beneficiary farmers in three installments of Rs 2,000 each. According to the scheme, all small and marginal farmers will get up to Rs 6,000 per year as minimum income support. Deputy Commissioner said that district Rupnagar topped all the rest of the district of the country in the category of Most Aadhar authentication of the farmers and disburesed the amount of Rs. 6000 to the more number of farmers under this scheme as compared to other districts of country.
Deupty Commissioner congratulated the team of Chief Agriculture Officer Rupnagar for this remarkable achievement.
Followed by Rupnagar, Kurukshetra of Haryana and Bilaspur in Chhatisgarh got second and third positions respectively in ‘other states’ category of this parameter. In the category of ‘northeast/hilly areas’, Lahaul and Spiti (Himachal Pradesh) topped the list while Udham Singh Nagar (Uttarakhand) got the second position.
