India, Rwanda sign 8 MoUs during PM Narendra Modi’s visit

New Delhi, July 24: India and Rwanda have signed 8 MoUs and documents during PM Modi’s visit, the first ever visit by any Indian PM.

The documents exchanged include Defence Agreement on Cooperation in Capacity Building, Defence, Industry, Science and Technology.

Also includes LOC Agreement for US $ 100 million for development of Industrial Parks and expansion of Kigali Special Economic Zones as well as LOC Agreement for US $ 100 million for agriculture irrigation scheme in Rwanda and a Trade Cooperation Framework.

PM’s visits to Rwanda and Uganda en route South Africa for the BRICS summit are seen as an important outreach to vie for influence in Africa where China has deepened its foothold.

Chinese President Xi Jinping will be attending the BRICS summit where he is likely to hold a bilateral with PM Modi, three months after the informal summit at Wuhan

“We are going to open a High Commission in Rwanda. This will not only establish communication between our respective governments but also enable facilities for consular, passport, visa and others,” said Modi after holding official talks in Rwanda with President Paul Kagame.
