SAD sarpanch arrested for sheltering gangsters

Date:

Moga, January 21: The Moga police today claimed to have arrested Jaswinder Singh alias Shinder, the Akali sarpanch of Buttar Kalan village falling under Nihalsinghwala subdivision of Moga, for giving shelter to gangsters.

At least three weapons, including one .32-bore pistol, one .32-bore revolver and one .12-bore gun had been recovered from him.

A case under Sections 212, 216 and 216-A of the IPC and various sections of the Arms Act was registered against him on a tip-off at the Badhni Kalan police station.

A senior police official said a team of the special cell of the police arrested him from the Raju Wala bridge of a local canal in the area.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the weapons recovered from the Akali sarpanch belonged to Surinder Pal Singh, Kala Singh and Bhagwant Singh, all residents of Buttar Kalan village. All these are licensed weapons, but had been recovered from the possession of the sarpanch. The said names of owners of these weapons had also been included in the case, the investigations of which are underway.

However, these associates of the Akali sarpanch are yet to be arrested.

An attempt was made by some gangsters to kill the Akali sarpanch on February 18, 2016. He along with a panchayat member Gurprem Singh escaped unhurt. The gangsters took away arms and several cartridges from the sarpanch’s car before fleeing.
