Sandhwan expresses grief over Batala incident

Chandigarh, May 5-

Speaker of Punjab Vidhan Sabha Mr Kultar Singh Sandhwan today described the incident of fire in a private school bus at Batala due to straw burning as unfortunate.

During the incident seven students were injured in fire out of which three are serious.

In a statement issued here today, the Speaker said that he was perturbed over the incident. He said that the paddy straw causes major damage to environment on one hand and ruin the ecosystem on other. Mr Sandhwan said that the Punjabis have to galvanise themselves against this social menace for living in a healthy environment.

The Speaker said that Punjab Government is making concerted efforts for direct sowing of paddy and Chief Minister Mr Bhagwant Mann has already announced financial assistance worth Rs 1500 per acre. He said that instead of burning the straw farmers must adhere to advise of experts for management of the straw.
